3 Hot Tips to hydrate your skin from within

Having hydrated skin is more than just about the price of the cream you apply. You must nourish your skin from within as well to get truly amazing results.

Hannah, our Spa Manager, has put together these 3 key tips for you…

1. Eat Your Water, Don’t Drink It

Fresh fruits and vegetables are loaded with water, so eating them keeps your cells hydrated all day long. (Plus, unlike water, they’re packed with essential vitamins and minerals.)

2. Supplement Your Diet With Cell-Fortifying Nutrients

It’s tough to get all the nutrients you need from food alone. Supplement with a good multivitamin, at least 500 mg of omega-3, 2,000 mg of lecithin and at least 1,200 mg of glucosamine.

3. Build Muscle to Build Cellular Water

Muscle is about 70% water, while fat only contains around 10%. So the more muscle you have, the more water you’ll have in your cells!

When these 3 key tips are combined with a tailored skin care regime, your skin will have its glow back in no time at all.

The Skin Analysis Explained by Hannah

The skin is the largest organ of your body and needs looking after. Your skin is an excellent guide to your general health. Good healthy looking skin indicates a good healthy body. Factors such as diet nutrition, and lifestyle all affect the quality of your skin. Too many late nights certainly take their toll on the way you look!

Our skin analysis system analyses the moisture, sebum (oil), melanin (pigment), elasticity, and pH levels to give you a detailed report and guide to your facial skin care. You keep a copy of the report for some bedtime reading and the another we store onto our database to compare results time after time to show how your skin care is working. We can also do specific tests for a problem or concern on your face or body. There is even a test to advise on your sun exposure time in preparation for your holidays. (If your lucky enough to get one!)

The skin analysis machine works by each measurement device being placed on different areas of your face, which then takes a reading from the deeper layers of the skin to give the most accurate reading. The test takes around 10minutes to actually do, it’s the great hints and tips you pick up in between that adds the time!

With the skin analysis and detailed report in your hands, we can then consider factors such as skin tone, skin type (using the Fitzpatrick scale), and your current skin treatment regime. Only after taking all these factors into account, do I recommend skin care products to ensure your skin is healthy and a true reflection of your health.

Your Skin Analysis Report

Here is an example of the indepth skin analysis report you are likely to be given at the end of your consultation…

The benefits of knowing these facts about your skin

Well, If your skin is dehydrated it can often lead to a fine horizontal lines on your skin, leaving you looking older and sallow. This is something that can be rectified with the correct use of our medicated creams and by treating your body internally this can most certainly be avoided.

If you have problem skin, sebum levels are crucial in finding out the root cause and therefore I can give you advice on the most suitable products to treat that concern. For example if you have blemish prone skin, you will generally have too much oil in your skin so should be using a lighter hydrator such as a gel.

Elasticity of the skin is vital in finding out the skin age compared to the biological age of the person, and I can check this for you at the skin analysis. (This is usually the one everyone wants to know but finds hard to watch! But trust me, its never that bad, and there is always a way to help here)

The pigmentation test finds out whether there is any damage caused either from sun damage or general ageing spots. I have a whole range of treatments on hand that can be given to you to reduce the appearance and prevent further pigmentation problems.

These were just some of the example of how the system has proven really beneficial for lots of my clients, and I alwasy ensure that at the very least you are left completely educated about your skin in all its radiant glory.

11 Skin Care Tips for 2011

With 2011 just around the corner, here is Castlefield Clinic’s 11 key skin care tips for the new year.

Maintain a skin pH of 5.5

Your skin needs a skin pH of 5.5 to retain moisture, so make sure your products are suited to your skin by having the pH checked and tailoring your products accordingly. Most products are actually alkaline, when they need to be slightly acidic.

Avoid long hot showers

With the winter in full grip, its tempting th spend that extra few minutes in the shower, but your facial skin is delicate and the prolonged time in the shower can strip away essential oils.

Wear sun protection

This is the most important tip there is. There is ultraviolet radiation in the atmosphere even when it is not sunny, so you need to protect from it. UV radiation causes premature skin ageing and sometimes the effects are irreversible. Always incorporate a good sun screen in your skin care regime.

Take time to chill out

Your skin gives clues as to how healthy your body is on the inside. When your body is stressed, it releases the hormone cortisol, which is one of the worst ageing hormones. Take time to unwind after periods of excessive stress.

 Cleansing in a hurry

Avoid cleansing in a hurry with wipes. Cleansing is important to removed the build up of bacteria. So take your time when you cleanse. A good cleanser and some warm water on the face is usually enough and only takes a few more seconds than a wipe.

Diets

Low fat and calorie controlled diets can dull and age the skin. You need a certain amount of fat for the skin to remain healthy, repair itself, and retain moisture. Each eggs, oily fish and green vegetables in particular to get the right fats.

Remember your neck

Your neck is part of your face, and a lot of people forget that. Make sure you apply the same products on your neck as well to keep the skin tone and firmness even.

Sugar

“Glycation is a process where sugar in the bloodstream reacts with collagen in the skin and changes its structure from springy and stretchy to hard and brittle and can lead to premature skin ageing,” said nutritionist Melanie Flower (natural-healthcare.net).

Great advice indeed

Keep pollutants at bay

Avoid prolonged exposure to things like cigarette smoke as they can damage the skin and increase damage caused by UV radiation

Get enough sleep

Your body, and so your skin regenerates when you sleep, so give your skin a chance to produce new skin cells by treating yourself to enough shut eye.

Too much drink

When you drink alcohol, your capillaries dilate, and this can lead to broken veins appearing on your face. You also deplete your Vitamin A levels, which is a vital anti-oxidant, and helps maintain skin elasticity.

Its not realistic to expect people not to drink, but the odd glass of water can help immensely. And moderation goes a long way to avoind problems much later on in life.

Vitamins help in the fight against stretch marks

The fight against stretch marks has found a new ally.

New research suggests that an effective treatment to resolve stretch marks must also include concentrated vitamin therapy.

Treatments such as the derma-roller, or skin peels can certainly help to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, however, the nutrients needed for the skin to heal itself properly, giving a permanent result can only be delivered through concentrated vitamin therapy. This therapeutic doseage is much stronger than many high street complete vitamin ranges, typically delivering up to 10 times the dose.

It is this high strength dose that enables the skin to extract the nutrients required to heal from within and balance the stretch marks so that they do not re-appear.

These high concentration vitamin supplements have also proved to be beneficial in the post- cosmetic surgery healing period, where patients typically heal 10-15% quicker than those who have not had the supplement therapy.

Castlefield Clinic stock the Arterial Health Formula which is specially formulated to deliver the highest doseage in an easy to take 1 pill a day solution.

Jane Iredale Mineral Make Up at Castlefield Clinic

We’re pleased to announce that we have just signed up to stock the Jane Iredale Mineral Make Up range at Castlefield Clinic.

Jane Iredale Mineral Make up is the prefessional’s choice, and the range was recently used by Angelina Jolie no less, on the set of her new movie, Salt.

The official story from jane Iredale themselves

Head make-up artist on the movie Paula Kelly chose to use a variety of high performance jane iredale cosmetics on the cast of Salt, the new action-packed spy thriller starring Angelina Jolie.

Paula used the following jane iredale products on the cast of the film:

Absence - a make-up primer which absorbs excess oil, reduces shine and increases the durability and coverage of the foundation applied with it for a long lasting finish.

Disappear – a state-of-the-art camouflage cream packed with beneficial botanicals that also control blemishes, so effective it can even be used to cover tattoos.

Eye Pencils and Lip PencilsSo soft, they won’t drag delicate skin; natural pigments provide long-lasting colour and give extra staying power to lipsticks.

Eye Highlighter Pencil  - a double-ended, pink and white pencil to wake up tired eyes.  It can be used under the brows, around the inner corner of the eye or all over the eyelid.

PureGloss for Lips - Shiny, soothing and protective, made from organic vegetables oils and botanical extracts so they won’t dry lips out.

Paula mixed Disappear and Absence into her liquid foundations to achieve a special look and provide extra coverage. She loved the products so much that both Disappear and Absence are going into her staple make-up bag for all future projects.

THE LOOK: Follow the steps below to get Angelina’s big smoky eyes and nude glossed lips as seen in Salt.

·         Complexion – Create a smooth, flawless canvas by applying Absence to the skin. Next, apply PurePressed Base with the Handi Brush to even the skin tone and provide coverage.  Spritz with D20 Hydration Spray to set and smooth.

·         Cheeks – Lightly dust on PurePressed Blush in Barely Rose with the Fan Brush in soft, sweeping strokes to the apples of the cheeks.

·         Eyes – Apply Canvas Lid Primer to the entire eye lid using the Camouflage Brush.  Next apply Bone PurePressed Eye Shadow to the entire eye lid using the Large Shader Brush. Line the top lash line with Black Plus Cream To Powder Eye Liner using the Angle/Brow Brush.  Start thin and close to the lashes on the inner eye and make the line gradually thicker as you reach the outer corners.  Line the inner rim of the lower lash line with Basic Black Pencil.

·         Lashes – Prime lashes with PureLash Extender & Conditioner for added volume. Finish with Longest Lash Mascara in Black Ice.  For added intensity, place a few of our new Faux Lashes at the outer corners of the eyes.

·         Lips – Line the lips with Spice Lip Pencil.  Next add Soft Peach PureGloss for Lips on top.
