Waxing at Castlefield Clinic

At, Castlefield Clinic, we’re always responding to what our loyal customers say to us, which is why we launched our Spa. Now under the control of our new Spa Manager, Suzanne, we’ve started to introduce some of the exciting new things you have been asking for…

So, we’re pleased to announce that we have just recently launched our waxing service. Now we do things a little differently at Castlefield Clinic, and we only want to give you the best service, so here’s what makes waxing at Castlefield Clinic that little but different.

  1. Suzanne, has over 11 years of waxing experience. This may sound strange, but waxing is one of those treatments that therapists usually move away from very quickly and so they are seldom this experienced
  2. We only use the best hot wax, Lycon. This wax is designed to require less temperature to heat up, it clings to the hair better than any other product on the market, and it is designed to be painless for most. All this leads to less trauma and irritation, and a happier customer
  3. Suzanne was trained by the inventor of Lycon wax herself, Lydia Jordane, so who better to have your waxing done by
  4. Lycon wax can remove short hairs. With its unique shrink-wrap technology, it can grip the smallest hairs and give longer lasting results, typically from 3-4 weeks. (normal waxes usually last upto a week)
  5. And off course, there is the Castlefield Clinic difference. We focus on the little touches that make your time with us an experience to remember. Expect lots of treats, and a service that is truly world-class, so give us a try

See what the press say about Lycon wax….

The chocolate hazelnut hot wax (organic, naturally) goes on thick like melted Dairy Milk and is whipped off without strips, making it way less painful. The verdict: ‘I used to dread waxing, but this was amazing. I lost my Brazilian virginity – and couldn’t believe how painless it was!’

Elizabeth, New Woman’s Deputy Features Editor

The therapist uses organic chocolate and hazelnut hot wax – known to grab onto hair, not skin – for a dreamy-smelling, non-clinical treatment.

Katy Young, Harper’s Bazaar

And just some of the comments we’ve had about the experience delivered by Suzanne herself.

“Suzanne makes you feel at ease the moment the wax starts- I couldn’t
have a wax done by anybody else now!”

S T – Manchester

“Suzanne is an exceptional waxer and makes the treatment an enjoyable
experience!”

3 Hot Tips to hydrate your skin from within

Having hydrated skin is more than just about the price of the cream you apply. You must nourish your skin from within as well to get truly amazing results.

Hannah, our Spa Manager, has put together these 3 key tips for you…

1. Eat Your Water, Don’t Drink It

Fresh fruits and vegetables are loaded with water, so eating them keeps your cells hydrated all day long. (Plus, unlike water, they’re packed with essential vitamins and minerals.)

2. Supplement Your Diet With Cell-Fortifying Nutrients

It’s tough to get all the nutrients you need from food alone. Supplement with a good multivitamin, at least 500 mg of omega-3, 2,000 mg of lecithin and at least 1,200 mg of glucosamine.

3. Build Muscle to Build Cellular Water

Muscle is about 70% water, while fat only contains around 10%. So the more muscle you have, the more water you’ll have in your cells!

When these 3 key tips are combined with a tailored skin care regime, your skin will have its glow back in no time at all.

Hannah, our Spa Manager, has put together a great offer if you are seriously considering using medicated skin care to treat your skin. Medicated skin care offers huge benefits in comparison with over-the-counter skin care, simply because it has actual active ingredients that only a professional can recommend.

We are offering a Complimentary Skin Analysis and £10 off your first order with us, so that we can demonstrate to you that medicated skin care is the only way to truly nourish and look after your skin, with proven results.

The Skin Analysis Explained by Hannah

The skin is the largest organ of your body and needs looking after. Your skin is an excellent guide to your general health. Good healthy looking skin indicates a good healthy body. Factors such as diet nutrition, and lifestyle all affect the quality of your skin. Too many late nights certainly take their toll on the way you look!

Our skin analysis system analyses the moisture, sebum (oil), melanin (pigment), elasticity, and pH levels to give you a detailed report and guide to your facial skin care. You keep a copy of the report for some bedtime reading and the another we store onto our database to compare results time after time to show how your skin care is working. We can also do specific tests for a problem or concern on your face or body. There is even a test to advise on your sun exposure time in preparation for your holidays. (If your lucky enough to get one!)

The skin analysis machine works by each measurement device being placed on different areas of your face, which then takes a reading from the deeper layers of the skin to give the most accurate reading. The test takes around 10minutes to actually do, it’s the great hints and tips you pick up in between that adds the time!

With the skin analysis and detailed report in your hands, we can then consider factors such as skin tone, skin type (using the Fitzpatrick scale), and your current skin treatment regime. Only after taking all these factors into account, do I recommend skin care products to ensure your skin is healthy and a true reflection of your health.

Your Skin Analysis Report

Here is an example of the indepth skin analysis report you are likely to be given at the end of your consultation…

The benefits of knowing these facts about your skin

Well, If your skin is dehydrated it can often lead to a fine horizontal lines on your skin, leaving you looking older and sallow. This is something that can be rectified with the correct use of our medicated creams and by treating your body internally this can most certainly be avoided.

If you have problem skin, sebum levels are crucial in finding out the root cause and therefore I can give you advice on the most suitable products to treat that concern. For example if you have blemish prone skin, you will generally have too much oil in your skin so should be using a lighter hydrator such as a gel.

Elasticity of the skin is vital in finding out the skin age compared to the biological age of the person, and I can check this for you at the skin analysis. (This is usually the one everyone wants to know but finds hard to watch! But trust me, its never that bad, and there is always a way to help here)

The pigmentation test finds out whether there is any damage caused either from sun damage or general ageing spots. I have a whole range of treatments on hand that can be given to you to reduce the appearance and prevent further pigmentation problems.

These were just some of the example of how the system has proven really beneficial for lots of my clients, and I alwasy ensure that at the very least you are left completely educated about your skin in all its radiant glory.

A taster of what’s to come in our Make-Up Masterclass on 21st April

Masterclasslogo
The Castlefield Clinic Make-Up MasterClasses are proving a massive hit (we were even featured in Style Etc), so much so that our next MasterClass is completely booked. So, we thought we’d set up an extra MasterClass this month on Thursday 21st April at 5pm and as a taster, here are a few great tips that Hannah, our Spa Manager, reveals….

1. Choosing the best eye shades to suit you.

Skin Tone Considerations-Your skin tone has a big effect on your ability to carry off certain shades of eye shadow. For example, if you have a delicate “English rose” complexion, dark colours can overpower your pale skin tone. For darker skin tones, avoid pale shades, as you can carry off much deeper and richer shades.

Brown Eyes-To subtly emphasise brown eyes, you are far less restricted in terms of colour choices, as brown eyes suit almost any colour of eye shadow. This gives you the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of different shades, from soft neutrals to bright neons. Metallic shades are a particularly good look, as they are eye-catching without being too dramatic.

Blue Eyes-Blue eyes suit warm shades of brown, taupe, gold, plum and peach. Wearing blue eye shadow usually has the effect of making your natural eye colour look nondescript. Metallics can work well, but stick to shimmery gold and bronze shades.

Green Eyes-Golden brown, taupe, rich purple, peach and violet shades will set off green eyes, and emphasise them as a striking feature. As a general rule of thumb, purple shades will work well on green eyes, so look for plum and violet shades. Be careful not to be too heavy-handed with these colours, as you can easily make your eyes look bloodshot. As with any colour, less is more!

2. Always use a make up brush!

Using a brush to apply your make up gives you a much better even finish and will save your product from being over used. They are easy to clean and harbour much less bacteria than s sponge or your fingers.

Choose a more expensive, good quality brush, it will be worth every penny and will last you years! (If you look after it properly)

Clean your brushes every month using either a brush cleaner or a foaming make up remover. Be gentle! Once clean, leave to dry on a flat surface overnight.

3. Don’t pump your mascara

We all do it, but we really shouldn’t! You will end up wasting almost a third of your mascara. By pumping your mascara you are forcing air to mix with the mascara causing drying leading to spider lashes and wasted product.

Simply twist and scoop to ensure you get your moneys worth.

If you would like to attend the next Make-Up MasterClass on Thursday 21st April at 5pm, then please email us with your name and contact number and we will be able to confirm your place.

11 Skin Care Tips for 2011

With 2011 just around the corner, here is Castlefield Clinic’s 11 key skin care tips for the new year.

Maintain a skin pH of 5.5

Your skin needs a skin pH of 5.5 to retain moisture, so make sure your products are suited to your skin by having the pH checked and tailoring your products accordingly. Most products are actually alkaline, when they need to be slightly acidic.

    Avoid long hot showers

With the winter in full grip, its tempting th spend that extra few minutes in the shower, but your facial skin is delicate and the prolonged time in the shower can strip away essential oils.

    Wear sun protection

This is the most important tip there is. There is ultraviolet radiation in the atmosphere even when it is not sunny, so you need to protect from it. UV radiation causes premature skin ageing and sometimes the effects are irreversible. Always incorporate a good sun screen in your skin care regime.

    Take time to chill out

Your skin gives clues as to how healthy your body is on the inside. When your body is stressed, it releases the hormone cortisol, which is one of the worst ageing hormones. Take time to unwind after periods of excessive stress.

     Cleansing in a hurry

Avoid cleansing in a hurry with wipes. Cleansing is important to removed the build up of bacteria. So take your time when you cleanse. A good cleanser and some warm water on the face is usually enough and only takes a few more seconds than a wipe.

    Diets

Low fat and calorie controlled diets can dull and age the skin. You need a certain amount of fat for the skin to remain healthy, repair itself, and retain moisture. Each eggs, oily fish and green vegetables in particular to get the right fats.

    Remember your neck

Your neck is part of your face, and a lot of people forget that. Make sure you apply the same products on your neck as well to keep the skin tone and firmness even.

    Sugar

“Glycation is a process where sugar in the bloodstream reacts with collagen in the skin and changes its structure from springy and stretchy to hard and brittle and can lead to premature skin ageing,” said nutritionist Melanie Flower (natural-healthcare.net).

    Great advice indeed

    Keep pollutants at bay

Avoid prolonged exposure to things like cigarette smoke as they can damage the skin and increase damage caused by UV radiation

    Get enough sleep

Your body, and so your skin regenerates when you sleep, so give your skin a chance to produce new skin cells by treating yourself to enough shut eye.

    Too much drink

When you drink alcohol, your capillaries dilate, and this can lead to broken veins appearing on your face. You also deplete your Vitamin A levels, which is a vital anti-oxidant, and helps maintain skin elasticity.

Its not realistic to expect people not to drink, but the odd glass of water can help immensely. And moderation goes a long way to avoind problems much later on in life.

So there you have it, our guide to looking healthy on the outside in 2011. Please visit our online shop for ideas on how to maintain your skin, and feel free to contact one of our care team for detailed skin care advice, and to enquire about a detailed complimentary skin analysis and profile.
